Where Your Donations Go: How Local Giving Makes a Difference for Dogs in Our Community
At Sloan & Finn Animal Rescue, every dog has a story, and every second chance is made possible by a community that cares.
As a 100% volunteer-run, foster-based rescue serving Charlotte, Lake Norman, and surrounding communities throughout the Carolinas, we rely on individual donors, local businesses, and community partners to continue our work. We do not have a physical shelter or a steady source of funding. Instead, every dog we save depends on the generosity of people who believe that every animal deserves a chance at a better life.
But what does that support actually look like? Where do donations go, why does sponsoring a pet matter, and how can local businesses get involved?

Where Do Donations Go?
Rescue is about so much more than bringing a dog to safety. Once a dog enters our program, we take responsibility for their medical care, daily needs, training, and journey toward a loving, permanent home.
Donations help cover the essential expenses that make this possible.
Medical care and veterinary expenses
Every dog deserves the opportunity to feel healthy and safe. Donations help cover wellness exams, vaccinations, spay and neuter procedures, heartworm testing and treatment, flea and tick prevention, heartworm prevention, medications, and unexpected medical emergencies.
For dogs who arrive injured, sick, or in need of specialized care, these expenses can quickly add up. Your support helps us say yes when a dog needs us most.
Food and foster supplies
Our foster homes provide the love, stability, and safe environment our dogs need while they wait for adoption. We help support those homes with food, crates, bedding, leashes, collars, enrichment items, and other essentials.
By providing these resources, we make fostering more accessible and help our foster families focus on what matters most: helping their dogs thrive.
Training and behavioral support
Some dogs need extra time, patience, and professional guidance before they are ready for their next chapter. Donations help provide training, enrichment, and behavioral support that can improve a dog's quality of life and help them succeed in an adoptive home.
Community support through the Sloan & Finn Community Care Fund
Our commitment extends beyond the dogs in our direct rescue program. Through the Sloan & Finn Community Care Fund, we support pets and families in our community through initiatives such as spay and neuter assistance, pet food donations, supplies, and responsible pet ownership education.
Keeping pets with the families who love them whenever possible is an important part of creating a more compassionate community.
Every contribution, regardless of size, helps make this work possible.
Why Sponsor a Pet?
Sometimes, the easiest way to understand the impact of a donation is to connect it to one dog.
Sponsoring a pet allows you to help cover the costs associated with a specific dog in our rescue program. Rather than wondering how your contribution makes a difference, you can see the direct impact of helping that dog receive the care and support they need.
A sponsorship can help cover veterinary expenses, preventatives, food, supplies, training, or other needs while a dog waits for adoption.
It also helps us plan for the future. When we have reliable financial support for the dogs already in our care, we can better manage ongoing expenses and make thoughtful decisions about taking in additional dogs who need a safe place to land.
For businesses, families, and individuals who want to make a more personal connection with their giving, pet sponsorship is a meaningful way to get involved.
You may not be able to foster a dog or adopt right now, but you can still be part of that dog's story.
And when that dog finally finds their forever home, you will have played a role in helping them get there.
Local Businesses Can Make a Local Impact
We believe that building a stronger community for animals starts with bringing people together.
Local businesses are an important part of that effort. Whether you own a coffee shop, brewery, fitness studio, veterinary practice, pet-related business, or neighborhood storefront, there are meaningful ways to partner with Sloan & Finn Animal Rescue.
You do not need to organize a large fundraiser or make a significant financial commitment to make a difference.
Sponsor an adoptable dog. Help cover a dog's care while giving your business an opportunity to share their story with customers and followers.
Host a donation drive. Collect food, treats, leashes, collars, blankets, towels, and other supplies that benefit rescue dogs and pets in need throughout our community.
Feature a dog at your business. Display a flyer with a dog's photo, bio, and QR code linking to their adoption profile. Your business could help introduce a dog to their future family simply by giving them a little extra visibility.
Partner on a fundraiser. Collaborate with us on a percentage-of-sales day, a special product or promotion, a donation campaign, or a community gathering that supports our mission.
Support our community care initiatives. Help provide pet food, supplies, and spay and neuter assistance to families who need a little extra support to care for their pets.
Spread the word. Share our adoptable dogs, foster opportunities, and fundraising campaigns with your customers, employees, and community.
The best partnerships are those that work for everyone involved. We are always open to creative ideas that align with our mission and help local businesses connect with a cause that matters to them.
Why Community Matters
Animal rescue is not something one organization can accomplish alone.
It takes foster families willing to open their homes, veterinarians who provide care, donors who help cover expenses, businesses that champion local causes, volunteers who give their time, and community members who share a post or introduce a dog to the right person.
At Sloan & Finn Animal Rescue, we believe in quality over quantity. We want every dog who enters our program to receive the care, attention, and support they need to find the right home.
That means being thoughtful about which dogs we can take in and ensuring we have the resources to care for them responsibly.
When adoptions slow down, dogs may spend longer in foster care. When donations decrease, the cost of caring for those dogs does not disappear. Food, preventatives, veterinary appointments, and other ongoing expenses continue for as long as they need us.
Reliable community support helps bridge that gap. It gives us greater flexibility to care for the dogs already in our program, respond to unexpected needs, and create opportunities to help more animals when we have the capacity.
And the impact does not stop with the dogs we rescue. Through community education, pet food support, and access to spay and neuter services, we can also help prevent future hardships for pets and the people who love them.
When our community supports local animal welfare, the entire community benefits.
How You Can Get Involved
There is no single way to support animal rescue, and you do not have to do everything to make a difference.
You can make a one-time donation, become a recurring supporter, sponsor a pet, open your home to a foster dog, volunteer your time, share an adoption profile, or introduce us to a local business that may want to partner with our mission.
If you own or work for a local business, we would love to explore ways to work together. We are always looking for community-minded partners who want to make a tangible difference for animals in the Charlotte and Lake Norman areas and surrounding communities.
Your support helps us provide more than temporary safety. It helps us provide medical care, stability, second chances, and the opportunity for dogs to find the families they deserve.
Be Part of Their Story
At Sloan & Finn Animal Rescue, we know that meaningful change starts with people who care enough to get involved.
Every donation supports a need. Every sponsorship helps a dog. Every partnership strengthens our community. And every act of kindness brings us one step closer to a future where more pets can stay with the families who love them and more dogs in need can find safety.
Thank you for being part of our mission and helping us make a difference, one dog and one community at a time.
